Ephesus, From 6000BC to Christianity
One of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, one of the great cities of Asia Minor, the second largest city in Turkey and a city which lives on through its association with Paul and his Epistle to the Ephesians, John the Apostle who may have written his Gospels here and its references in the Book of Revelation. Ephesus was a great city due to its sheltered harbour which allowed river passage to the Aegean Sea. Unfortunately, silt gradually filled the harbour and no amount of dredging could keep it open. Today the harbour is over 5km from the city site.
