The colourful houses on the approach to Burano Island.

With many stories about the coloured houses of Burano Island, visitors can take their choice between the origins of these colourful homes. Some say that fishermen would paint their houses in bright colours to help them identify them as they returned from the sea. Others say it was a more pragmatic approach of using up that paint which they already had for painting their boats. Whichever you prefer, the island is a pleasure to visit and enjoy.
